Seahorse Monogamy Is (Sort of) a Myth 

 

It seems a seahorse 

isn’t as monogamous  

as once believed, 

but that only makes  

my underwater crush 

on the little creature 

grow even deeper. 

Male or female— 

it really doesn’t matter. 

I especially like the way 

this pale-yellow seahorse 

wraps its tail around 

the sunken plastic pirate ship 

in the saltwater aquarium 

at my favorite Thai restaurant. 

Nearby a darker yellow seahorse 

begins doing an intimate dance 

in the soft and steady current. 

I know love is a lot like food, 

and there are so many choices 

on the menu.
