Jane Richards

RCU, Mid 2023- Homesick
I’m chugging a beer
At the rodeo
In Sikeston ‘22
And you'll buy me another one
So I’ll dance all night with you

Bell bottoms, cross tattoo
I’d die to be back there with you
Smiling as we sing along
With dust flying till
My hair’s all wrong

I loved you
Or I thought I did
I thought you were the end
My Concrete Cowboy
My good friend

Those bloody knuckles
And crooked teeth
They always held me up
And were a comfort to me

Growing up is harder
Than I thought it’d be
And I have to wonder
What happened to me?

You’re just a memory,
A flash of light that fades
I never will forget you
And I’ll never be the same

Maybe I’ll see you in Sikeston
In August ‘24
Then I know I’ll miss you
In a full force

She’ll be on your arm
In a little cotton dress
But you'll come alive
When you see me again

I'll picture you in high-vis
Picture me with scars
And I know behind it all
You’ll wish I held your heart
